The Secret to writing your next Chapter after the Nest Empties

Honestly, it took a couple days for me to really feel the emptiness. My daughter was always off somewhere-work, out with friends, shopping, the beach. So the first few days after dropping her at the dorm, I didn’t feel any different. It just felt like another day. And that was good, because drop off was HARD. Like swallowing the lump in my throat so she didn’t see how sad I was kind of hard.

But on day 4, I woke up and everything made me cry. Her old tennis shoes in the closet when I put away her umbrella. A post-it I wrote her to come wake me up so I knew she made it home ok one night last week, still on her bedroom door. An empty milk gallon still in the fridge, just as she left it. Just little signs of life with my sweet daughter.

Things that 3 years ago were aggravations, signs of normal. Things I took for granted.

But now they were sadly absent. As were some of the other minor annoyances that come with having kids.

We had a drawer full of forks, laundry all caught up, and a full pantry.

Seems like we complain and moan until all of a sudden, these annoyances are gone.

And then, we cry.

When the kids move out, no one hands you a roadmap for what comes next.

One day your calendar is full of school drop-offs, soccer games, and late-night kitchen chats… and the next, the house is quiet, your to-do list is strangely short, and your role feels… unclear.

For many of us, the Empty Nest isn’t just a change in our daily routine — it’s a shift in our very identity.

And while some women slide into this season with ease, others find themselves wondering:

“Who am I now? And what am I supposed to do with this next chapter?”

If that’s you, I want you to hear this: This season is not the end of your story — it’s the perfect time to rewrite it.

And I have been working on a project called The Joyful Rewrite to help you do just that .

Why the “Rewrite” Works

I created The Joyful Rewrite because I’ve been where you are — missing the constant hum of family life, but also sensing that there’s more for me to discover.

What I learned (and now teach) is this:
When you approach the Empty Nest with intention, you can transform it from a season of loss into a season of limitless possibility.

It’s not about filling your time.

It’s about filling your life with meaning, joy, and a renewed sense of you.

The Five Shifts That Change Everything

Inside The Joyful Rewrite, we work through five powerful lessons that build on each other. I won’t give you the “step-by-step” here (that’s what we’ll do together inside), but I will share why each one matters.

  • Mindset Shift: Until you see this season as an opportunity, every change will feel like a loss. The way you think about the Empty Nest determines how you experience it.
  • Design Your Base: You can’t create a fulfilling future using your “old life blueprint.” This is where you get clarity on what matters most to you now.
  • Expand Your Vision: Your imagination is the launchpad for your future. If you can’t picture it, you can’t live it.
  • Turn Dreams into Plans: A goal without a plan is just a wish — and you deserve more than wishful thinking.
  • Keep the Momentum: Lasting joy isn’t about one big change. It’s about creating a rhythm that keeps you moving forward.

The Real “Why” Behind the Process

Here’s the truth most people don’t talk about:

Rebuilding your life after the Empty Nest isn’t about reinventing yourself from scratch. It’s about remembering who you are — and giving yourself permission to live that out in fresh, exciting ways.

When you do this work, you stop feeling like life is happening to you… and start feeling like you’re the one steering the ship.

If you’re ready to stop asking “Now what?” and start saying “What’s next?!”, keep an eye out for my upcoming series where I’ll walk you through each of these five lessons and share how they can transform your life.

Your next chapter is waiting.
Let’s write it together.
